First birthday celebration with a groovy themed cake smash!

Do you know what a cake smash session is?? A cake smash is a popular photo shoot concept, often done to celebrate a child’s first birthday. During a cake smash session, the birthday baby is presented with a cake, typically a small cake, and encouraged to dig in, smash it, and make a mess. The idea is to capture candid and playful moments as the child explores and interacts with the cake, getting messy in the process.

Cake smash sessions usually take place in the studio or outdoor setting with a professional photographer to capture the moments. I do my sessions in the studio, located in Kawartha Lakes. The photos often showcase the child’s joy, curiosity, and messy antics as they smash, taste, and play with the cake. It’s a fun and memorable way to celebrate the child’s first birthday milestone and create lasting memories for the family.

Parents often choose a specific theme or colour scheme or theme for the cake smash. I try to coordinating the cake, decorations, and outfits to create a cohesive and visually appealing look for the photoshoot. After the cake smash portion of the session, I love to include a bubble bath in a small metal tub. Overall, a cake smash is a fun and whimsical way to celebrate a child’s first birthday and create adorable photos to cherish for years to come.
