What You Need to Know Before Hiring a Newborn Photographer

Welcoming a new baby is one of life’s most beautiful milestones. Capturing those early days with professional newborn photography is something many families treasure forever. Before you book, it’s important to know what to look for in a newborn photographer so you can feel confident, comfortable, and safe during your session.

As a newborn photographer in Kawartha Lakes, here are some of the top things I encourage parents to consider:

1. Safety Should Always Come First 👶

Your baby’s comfort and well-being should be the number one priority in any newborn session. A trained newborn photographer knows how to safely pose your baby, and handle them gently throughout the session. Don’t hesitate to ask your photographer about their safety practices, ask the questions. Ask how long they have been working with newborns, you deserve peace of mind knowing your little one is in good hands. Please don’t hire the first “newborn” photographer who does not have any portfolio work of their own to see.

2. Check Google Reviews ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

One of the best ways to get a feel for a photographer’s professionalism, style, and personality is by reading their Google reviews. Honest feedback from past clients can give you confidence in your decision and help you know what to expect. This should be a good reminder before hiring any service based company as well.

3. Review Their Portfolio & Style 🎨

Every photographer has a unique style, some prefer posed newborn photography while others lean towards lifestyle photography. Posed Newborn Sessions work more with wraps, props, and adorable set-ups, while life style is natural, candid moments in your home. Before booking, take time to browse through their portfolio and make sure their work matches the look and feel you want. This step ensures you’ll love the final images and have timeless keepsakes to treasure. Vicki at Centreline Design loves the posed newborn sessions trying to create art with each photograph.

4. Don’t Be Afraid to Ask for a Mask 😷

Health and safety are personal, and it’s okay to request that your photographer wear a mask during your session, especially with newborns who are so delicate. A professional photographer will respect your wishes and be happy to accommodate.

5. Consider Location & Convenience 📍

When you have a newborn, convenience matters. My photography studio is located in Kawartha Lakes, between Peterborough, Lindsay, and Bobcaygeon. This is making it an easy drive for many families. Parents are welcome to split up if a father would like to sneak out after sibling/family photos if they’d like to take the older children out of the studio. Mothers can sit back and relax while I take over and get those portraits. I’m about 30 minutes from Fenelon Falls, Ennismore, Orange Corners, Bethany, Janetville, Valentia, Little Britain, and Oakwood. And just an hour from the GTA, Sunderland, Woodville, Beaverton, Kirkfield, Port Perry, Courtice, Bowmanville, Port Hope, Cobourg, Norwood, Hastings, and Buckhorn.

Choosing a photographer within a comfortable distance means less stress for you and your baby, making the whole experience more enjoyable.

6. Payment Plans Are Available 💴

When you have a new baby and there is money heading out for so many little things, things can get stressful. Not to worry, just ask and I am happy to help. We can make a payment plan and work it out into payments that suits your family needs best. Just ask!

Final Thoughts

Hiring a newborn photographer is an investment in memories you’ll cherish forever. By prioritizing safety, checking reviews and asking questions, you can feel confident knowing you’ve chosen the right photographer for your family. I am happy to help you find the right photographer if my style wasn’t what your looking for.

If you’re expecting and would love to capture those first precious days, I’d be honoured to help you create timeless, heartfelt newborn portraits.
