Which Fall Photo Session Is Right for Your Family?
As soon as the leaves start changing, my inbox begins filling with the same question: “Should we book a mini session or a full family session?” The answer really depends on what you’re hoping to capture! Let me help point out a few key differences in the mini or regular session.
Mini sessions are perfect if you:
- Want a few updated family photos
- Have young children with shorter attention spans
- Have teenagers who don’t want to stick around for a long time
- Need a quick holiday card photo
- More budget-friendly option
- Love the beautiful fall colours but don’t need a full gallery.
Mini sessions are short, fun, and designed to make the most of every minute. They’re a great way to update your family photos each year.
A full session is a wonderful choice if you:
- Want a larger variety of images, posed and more casual
- Want to enjoy the cuddles, without being rushed
- Love candid moments as much as posed portraits
- Want the flexibility of a relaxed session without watching the clock
- A full session gives us time to slow down
- Gives us time to explore around a bit
These sessions tell more of your family’s story and create a gallery you’ll enjoy looking through for years. There’s time for cuddles, games, exploring, genuine laughter, and those quiet moments between everyone that often become favourite photos.
Extended Family Sessions
Fall is also one of the best times to gather everyone together.
Grandparents, adult children, cousins, and grandchildren don’t often end up in the same place at the same time. An extended family session captures those rare moments and creates photographs that become even more meaningful as the years go by.
I only take on a limited number of extended family sessions each fall, and I currently have just a few dates still available.

Take a look at WHAT TO WEAR blog post for some inspiration. I like darker tones for the fall, think deep burgundy, maroon, plum, wine, and emerald green. Navy blue (a great softer alternative to black) and dusty blue, subtle shades of rose, mauve, pink, violet, and blush are nice as well. I love earthy tones, browns, creams and burnt oranges.
